Title fight that wont go more than 3 pages of fans commenting as there is nothing to comment other than least amount of strikes in UFC history ... Well done ...

I unfortunately agree (for like the first time ever) with the "boring" chants. In all his previous fights, even though Maia knew he had inferior striking, he kept at least going for strikes trying to close the distance, but it seems that it's a thing with him that when the stakes get high enough, he'll just shut down completely into his BJJ and forget he has other skills to complement it...

As for Woodley, again just too much respect for his specialist counterpart. I agree with his justifying of what had happened as for him needing a "free-style opponent", because anyone caught for longer than 10s on the mat with Demian has had to endure the stuff of grappling nightmares in there, but he still could've turned the heat up as the fight progressed, once he had Maia completely frustrated (happened around 3rd Rd)...

Boring... they could have fought all day long, with nothing happening. Feel sorry for Maia, but it seems he has no weapons against Woodley. The champion has great take-down defense, is very good with his hands. Yet, I don't like him, can't wait to see someone taking the belt from him. Don't know who that could be...

I consider myself a Martial Arts fan, not just an MMA fan so I fully understand what Woodley says about understanding and respecting how he nullifies his opponents skill set. It is impressive.
However I struggle to see any entertainment, and although MMA is a showcase of talented Martial Artists I watch MMA to be entertained.
I could not watch the full fight this time and when I was watching I was looking out of the window and letting it run whilst leaving the room.

50-45 when Maia won the first round? Strange. Tyron missed the opportunity to hook Maia's head after each of those failed T/D attempts by Maia. Maia was very competitive on the feet. Many missed opportunities by Woodley to get at least two low kickes per round after the second round. I was disappointed in Woodley's lack of shot diversity in this fight. He could have and should have used this as an opportunity to show some diversity on the feet, but didn't. I am disapoint. Although I understand that getting the win is paramount, a little bit of razamataz goes a long way. Missed opportunity by Woodley here.

Tyron will always be remembered for 2 things...
*finding racism where there is none
*breaking the ufc record for the least amount of punches thrown in a fight...ever!

Enjoy your legacy, buddy!  :laugh

That takedown defence is awesome it has to be said. It was like watching Aldo. Maia needed more than shooting for the single all the time. He was too predictable.
The earth makes a sound as of sighs and the last drops fall from the emptied cloudless sky. A small boy, stretching out his hands and looking up at the blue sky, asked his mother how such a thing was possible. f**k off, she said.

Most frustratingly boring episode of Dancing With The Spars since Woodley/Thompson 1. Fortunately not the fight that people were really there for. Ugh.

Woodely is a smart athletic talented fighter who does just enough to nullify his opponent then waits for a moment where he can get a big burst that might or might not end the fight. Maia shows why you can't be one dimensional no matter how good you are at that aspect. He never adjusted his take down focus instead going for lower body constantly then when Woodley would not engage there in any form he stayed on his fight getting out struck.
Now it should be interesting with the whole GSP dynamic. That is a "money" fight which is one thing Woodley has chased. GSP is also a great strategist who is into nullifying his opponents strengths and exploiting his weaknesses. I think GSP probably has the best developed and well rounded skill set of anyone Woodley has faced. But he has be gone for several years. So just interesting to watch play out.

great points but im not so sure gsp fights woodley. woodley isnt a draw and is a dangerous matchup for gsp. gsp can hand pick his opponent. why pick woodley over a "bad guy" striker with questionable tdd?
in mma's dark age of roids, gsp was the best conditioned of them all. things that make you go hhhhmmmmmm

mma is a dog n pony show disguised as a legitimately run sport

Well not that it necessarily means anything but Dana White has stated GSP would fight whoever won this fight.  I agree that Woodley is not a good draw and there is a very good chance it would be another tactical slow fight so fair chance it won't happen.

Like i said Maia will never be champ and Woodley was to scared to fight like a real Champ cause he was to scared of getting taken down and submitted even with a great takefown defence and wrestling. I kept fast fowarding the fight it was so freakng boring. It was like come on Woodley you could have thrown that over hand right way more. He knew he could coast to the end though and win an easy paycheck. oh well i dot think woodley is gonna last long unless they keep giving him easy fights. Anywho it was borrrring as hell.
