He either REgained muscle after a cut (diet) as old muscle comes back fast when you begin eating more, or he gained about 10 lbs of water, about 6 lbs of fat and about 4 lbs of muscle Or he was a skinny beginner teenager with raging hormones. Or he used steroids. Or he is lying. Muscle building is a SLOW process regardless of what we're being promised by the commercials and advertisements.
