widows muay thai journal

Postby WIDOW » Nov 17. 2009, 20:09

today we were working on basics! you got to walk before yuo crawl!

we started with jump ropes for warm up

3 sets of three minutes

the shadow boxing 3 sets of three minutes

then we worked on leg kicks with a partner holding the bag. keeping emphasis on staying on the balls of the feet with the lead leg and having good hip movement on the kick.

then we drilled slipping the punch right and left.

on our second round of slipping drills we pacticed a slip right and a 2 hook and then a slip left and a 2 straight.

good class. i like fundementals. im not particularly skilled at muay thai and i need the practice

WIDOW, my man... I knew you will come to the dark side

Basis is everything. Don't try doing things that you just learned fast or with full strength because you will mess up your muscle memory. Doing things slow and the right way will bring the speed and strength in time without trying really hard... It just takes time.

I'm really glad you are taking the other side of martial arts into consideration. You will find this very, very useful, just like BJJ. :D

i knew youd like it vstipik!

today i did pretty much the same basics as last time.

we started with three minutes of jump rope for three sets

then three rounds of shadow boxing. i wasnt felling too hot so i just did punches and slips for shadow boxing.

then we worked on slipping rights and then slipping left with an emphasis on the rock motion of your shoulders and hips as if you were on the ocean

then we did the same excercise but this time when we slipped left we threw a straight two and when we slipped right we threw a hook2

finished up with two rounds of leg kicks

sweet nes is my chick is gonna do so ink work on my instructer so ill get som free individuals soon

again more fundementals in muay thai.

we started with three sets of three minutes on jump rope

then moved on to three sets of three minutes of shadow boxing

then we worked on the slip with no punch just slipping right and left forward and backward

then added a set of slipping left left hook and then slipping right with a straight right.

then we worked on a new slipping techniche i havent done yet. it was any two punch combo followed by a slip and then another two punch combo so as not to get caught on the back of your feet just swinging for the fences with the dude in front of you. i chose 2 1 slip left right hook to body left hook over the top. fantastic shit man! im very excited about this one because its a nonstop four bunch combo with movement.

then we moved on to heavybags which i practiced leg kicks on and my new combination. after that round i went to the tear bag and practiced knees and elbow combinations

then onto small bag for 12 slip 2 combinations

sorry this is actually widow (i forgot to log out of my freinds account)

So back in muay thai last night. It was fucking brutal. My usual instructor is gone in hawaii so i have to train with this other guy who is a pure striker, and he put the screws to me last night. We started with the usual 3 minutes of roping 3 times and than stretching in between, than moved on to shadow boxing for two rounds no problem, but than we started doing slip drills with a rope tied from one wall to the other keeping good form and a nice gaurd (hands up) for five minutes and i started to feel that one. I hadnt trained in a while so i started getting very tired towards the end of the drilling section of class. Than we moved on to leg kicks 50 for each leg. I have a very powerful right leg kick but my left is actually pretty weak so i had a lot to work on on that leg. i did 25 right leg and than 25 right leg switches. Than the same for the left. after that was done we moved on to progressive back drills for four rounds of five minutes. I cant remember all the progressions but heres a few:

1,2, hook hook

1,2, hook, right leg kick

1,1, high right

2, uppercut switch left

and so on

by the third round i was fucking devastated and the pace was pretty fast. by the end of the fourth i could hardly hold my hands up. brutal. but i loved that shit. cant wait till next monday so i can do it again. hopefully ill be able to handle it a little better next time. no sparring today. i think they are gonna make me wait a little before i start sparring again which is okay. i like the fundementals anyways.

Good to see you back in training. Keep on doing it, it's good for ya. :D
