After Kelvin Gastelum, Michael Bisping aims to retire in London in March

“There’s a fight card in London, I’d love to be on that,” Bisping said. “I’d love to be a part of that and say thank you to the British people for supporting me, and have my last fight there.“

“This just came up. This is just one of those crazy circumstances, and it just fell into my lap. This is a sign, I’m going to take this.“

“Of course, when you’re a world champion, you got to be strategic and take the right fights. You got to make as much money. That was great, I was the world champion. But I’m not anymore. So now I go back to being a prize fighter and fighting for money. Here we go, I’ve got a chance to fight a good opponent, a ranked opponent who is a good up and comer.”

“I definitely want my last fight to be in England, I’ve always wanted my last fight to be in England,” Bisping said. “Yeah, definitely [March will be my last fight]. Definitely. … I’m at peace right now. I’ve been at peace for a long time. Contrary to popular belief with GSP saying I’m an angry man — I’m a very happy man. But it’s time to move on and do something else with my life.“

“I’m not done yet. That’s why I want to fight Kelvin because I know I can do better than last week. I’m taking this fight just.. you’re only as good as your last fight. And last week’s fight didn’t go according to plan. I feel good, I’m in good shape, I’ve got no injuries, so why not?“

“I was planning on my last fight being in March. This one came out of the blue so I guess I’m going to do one extra. That wasn’t the plan, but circumstances have put me in this situation.”

If I could see Bisping fight anyone, actually if I could watch any two fighters fight in the UFC I think I'd pick Nick Diaz vs Bisping.

That's the retirement fight to make
Its better to let ppl think you're a fool than post a butthurt reply and prove them right.

Kelvin Gastelum: Michael Bisping fight ‘definitely’ bigger than original contest with Anderson Silva
Image

”Definitely [this fight is bigger], definitely,” Gastelum said, speaking on the UFC Shanghai media call. “I feel like this is a much, much bigger fight than the Anderson fight would have been. I feel like this fight is a lot bigger than my previous opponent.”

“It’s not like I dislike Anderson or I like him — I feel indifferent about him,” Gastelum said. “To me it wasn’t surprising that he got caught. So it’s just.. gotta move on with the show. I feel he definitely tarnished his legacy with this, and it is what it is and the show must go on.”

“I feel like if I win this fight then I might have tarnished those plans,” Gastelum said. “I might have permanently put myself in a position where I’ll be fighting for the middleweight title. If I get to fight for the middleweight title then that’s ideal, but I also feel like if I do the right things, I’m able to make the 170 [pound limit] safely and healthy, then I can do it and I want to fight for that title too.”

Kelvin Gastelum is a bigger threat than Georges St-Pierre, claims Michael Bisping’s coach
Image
“Really, Kelvin is, in my opinion, on the feet, a tougher fight than Georges St-Pierre,” Parillo said to ESPN’s Five Rounds podcast, as reported by MMAFighting.

“It’s not like Mike’s a guy that shoots and wrestles all the time so obviously it’s gonna be a lot of stand up fighting and this guy’s a bigger threat than I think that even Georges was.”

“This guy’s got a different mind frame,” Parillo explains. “Is it gonna hurt or help him? We’re gonna find out… You can look at it both ways. I’m looking that it’s a good thing that Michael wants to do. It’s something that he’s very happy about the decision that he made to do this, so we’ve got to ride that positive mind into this fight and hope for the best.“

“Mike is a world champion and he can fight any guy on the planet. Is there a question about how he’s gonna be mentally with how close this fight is? Sure, there could be. But I have a feeling Mike’s head is gonna be right in this fight and it’s something that he really wants to go out there and win and try to dust off his last loss. We’re going in. We’re gonna go in regardless of whether I have concerns or don’t have concerns. We’re gonna go in and we’re gonna go in there to win.”

Despite role as underdog, Michael Bisping anticipates easy win against Kelvin Gastelum
Image
“It’s weird – for most of my career, I’ve been Public Enemy No. 1,” Bisping said to MMAJunkie. “It’s a refreshing change – I’ve been getting a lot of compliments from people. … To be honest, I just don’t understand why someone in my position wouldn’t take that fight. I’ve got no injuries from the last one, I’m in shape, I had a tremendous training camp (for St-Pierre). The fight didn’t go my way – for whatever reason, it wasn’t clicking on the night. That’s just the way it goes – I had a bad night at the office. I get a chance now to go out there and fight the way I wanted to fight.”

“I work as an analyst – I’ve broken down his fights many times,” Bisping said. “Kelvin’s a great guy. I’ve got nothing bad to say about Kelvin. This isn’t on pay-per-view – I’m not trying to sell pay-per-views or any of that. Kelvin seems like a very, very nice guy – apart from the fact he does a little bit too much pouting on Instagram. Other than that, he seems like a lovely guy.”

“Great fighter, good hands, good wrestler. He’s got some good wins – he beat some guys I didn’t beat. Granted, they’re not on steroids anymore. I’m expecting a tough fight. I’m not expecting a walk in the park. What I am expecting is a smaller guy with a shorter reach, without the experience. If I fight the way I fight, I’ll win this fight pretty handily. But we’ll see what happens.”

Michael Bisping: “If I win? Then great. And if I don’t, well f***** it, who cares”
Image
“It’s hard under those bright lights,” Bisping said, speaking with MMAJunkie. “In the gym, I’m a different man, and I didn’t show up because I wanted to remain the champion so much. Now it’s not about that, I don’t even feel any pressure. I’m just going to go out there and fight my fight. I don’t want to be emotional, I’m gonna be happy, I’m just going to go out there and fight as if I’m in a sparring session."

“And if I win? Then great. And if I don’t, well f**k it, who cares. I’m not the champion anymore, I’m just back to taking fights for the sake of fighting. Does that mean I want to win, my god, I will fight to the death to try and win, I will never quit. But if I lose? f**k it.”

This could well be the penultimate Bisping fight. An upcoming event in London in March has widely been pointed to (even by Bisping himself) as the final time we’ll see him enter the UFC cage. Although you get the sense Bisping might still be trying to convince himself that’s the case.

“I don’t know, I don’t know. Maybe,” Bisping said, grinning. “Yeah, I guess. We’ll see. I like fighting, I like getting paid to fight, I like traveling the world doing this and I’ll miss it. Right now, the plan is beat Kelvin and then one more in March. And that will probably.. yeah. Yeah, that is the plan."

“That ain’t the boss at home… it’s maybe the boss at home. Maybe the boss at home, and maybe it’s my heart. It’s the smart thing to do. I don’t know. Yeah, my last fight will be next year. My retirement fight will be March in London. Fact. It will be.”

Jorge Masvidal open to fighting “f*cking waste of space” Michael Bisping “in a heartbeat”
Image
“I don’t even have to cut weight to 185[-pounds] so if Gastelum was unable to make it I’m here,” Masvidal said at a Q&A in Shanghai. “Actually just as I was headed over here, I saw him. Fucking waste of space. He started saying ‘shame, shame, shame’ and he’s with his wife or his kids or some type of girls are with him that I don’t want to make a scene in front of."

“He’s just a coward, as long as this is happening he’s going to talk and do shit, but if it’s just me and him and we go somewhere and talk like men, he’s not going to do that.”

“I wouldn’t say it’s beef,” Masvidal said. “I’d just say he’s a fucking idiot, bro. Yeah, I would go up [to middleweight] in a heartbeat. That’s why — I didn’t want to be on a long flight [to China] but when I heard Bisping was taking the fight, I said ‘for sure take me to China’. Just in case Gastelum doesn’t make weight."

“I made it clear, I would fight that guy anywhere. I’m not going to say I’d do it for free, because then the UFC might not pay me, but I’d fight him anywhere. For him it’s whatever, whenever. I dislike the guy genuinely.”

Kelvin Gastelum requires two attempts to make weight at UFC Shanghai
Image
If Kelvin Gastelum wanted to convince the UFC he should be permitted to go back down to welterweight, he’s not exactly on the right track.

The UFC Shanghai main eventer, who meets Michael Bisping this Saturday, was forced to move up to 185-pounds from 170 after a multitude of weight cutting issues. However it seems that even with fifteen pounds of extra room to play with, Gastelum can’t quite get it right.

At the early morning weigh-ins in Shanghai today, Gastelum originally hit the scales at 187-pounds, one over the permitted limit. While he was permitted to have a second go — making weight without trunks on — it’s not the best look for a man with such public weight battling issues. It’s perhaps even more eyebrow raising in comparison to his opponent Michael Bisping, who revealed he had hit 214-pounds before accepting this weekend’s fight on short notice.

Bisping made weight at the first time of asking at 186-pounds.

Luckily for Gastelum, he will not be fined the usual percentage of his purse, but it does likely put any hopes of his return to 170-pounds on hold for the immediate future.
