Kind of weird to call it a heavyweight tournament when half of the fighters listed are light heavyweight fighters.

Star-studded my ass!:ass

This tourney consists of Grampa Fedor (who I hope wins of course, after my 1st choice Chael :)), plus washed up, name-only, ex-UFC fighters - mostly LHWs (besides the LHW Queen Mo).

Bellasnore is going down any month now - UFC vultures be circling - ka-kaw!  ka-kaw!

If this 'tournament' took place in one night (old UFC/Pride style), it would be awesome.  To see it dragged out over a year means some last-minute injury fill-in will prolly end up winning.

Still, better than most crap on TV nowadays...

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson uninterested in Chael Sonnen contest: “Who wants to see me fight another wrestler?”
Image
I told my manager that I’m not looking forward to fight Chael Sonnen,” Jackson said on The MMA Hour this week. “I just fought a leg-humping wrestler. Why would I want to fight another fighter who is strictly known for wrestling?

Chael Sonnen reveals previous issues with Quinton Jackson: ‘We had to be separated by Michael Bisping’
Image
“I got Rampage, as it turns out I’m ready to go on a Rampage,” Sonnen said on SportsCenter after the announcement. “I got no of problem with these types of match ups, look I’m a tournament guy, this is how I grew up in wrestling. I love the competitive architecture, everybody understands a line bracket.”

“[We were] separated in a hotel lobby in Pheonix, Arizona by Michael Bisping. When Michael Bisping has to be the voice of reason between two people — in this case, me and Rampage — you know you got problems. But look, Rampage and I have always been going to cross paths. He beat up a couple of my teammates quite frankly. Dan Henderson, Matt Lindland, Rampage got over on both of them.”

“So he’s been in my sights for a long time, I think he could say the same about me. But in this case, we don’t need to apologise … let’s just get in there with our mouthpiece and fight.”

Rory MacDonald believes he’ll fight as an alternate in Bellator heavyweight Grand Prix
Image
“I spoke to Scott Coker about it and he said that maybe they would use me as an alternate if someone gets injured, and also depending on how my fight goes with Lima, obviously,” MacDonald said today, speaking on MMAFighting’s The MMA Hour. “I like my chances if someone gets injured or pulls out for whatever reason.”

For MacDonald, it’s all an opportunity to be involved in a tournament — something he’s never been able to do — and to prove that there are aspects to mixed martial arts which can overcome size and power.

“I’ve always wanted to do a tournament, and I think it would be interesting doing it, kind of like old school,” MacDonald said. “I know I’d be undersized going in against these guys in a tournament, so it would kind of have an old school UFC vibe. That’s always something that would be interesting."

“I think it would be interesting. Fight fans would find it interesting to see the new school MMA with a touch of the old school [like] the whole no weight limit thing, even though I would have to make the weight.”
