UFC’s Adam Hunter flagged by USADA, pulled from UFC on FOX 21 fight

Image

Saturday night's card is down a fight.

Adam Hunter was flagged by USADA for a potential UFC anti-doping policy violation Friday and was removed from his UFC on FOX 21 bout with Ryan Janes, the UFC announced Friday.

Hunter failed a drug test in an out-of-competition sample taken Aug. 11. USADA does not release the name of the substance until after the adjudication process or when the athlete does so first.

Hunter (7-1), a middleweight, was set to make his UFC debut. The New Brunswick, Canada native was riding a seven-fight winning streak into what would have been a fight with Janes. Hunter, 32, is coming off a first-round knockout of Chris Dempsey in June under the GOTC banner.

Janes (8-1) has won seven straight and he, too, was attempting to make his UFC debut. Now the nearby Victoria, B.C., native will be without a fight on the card.

Both Hunter and Janes officially weighed in Friday morning.

UFC on FOX 21 takes place Saturday at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. Carlos Condit fights Demian Maia in the main event.

UFC heavyweight Ruslan Magomedov notified of potential USADA anti-doping violation

Image

After an infection forced Ruslan Magomedov from his planned UFC 204 bout with Stefan Struve, the news has gotten even worse for the 29-year-old Russian. The UFC today released a statement saying the fighter had been notified of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation.

According to the statement, the United States Anti-Doping Agency – the independent administrator of the policy – notified both fighter and promotion of the result of an out-of-competition sample collection made on September 7, 2016.

Magomedov hasn’t fought since an October 2015 decision victory over Shawn Jordan. The victory pushed his current winning streak to nine.

He was to face Struve, but was forced out of the event due to staph infection.

The official UFC statement reads:

“The UFC organization was notified that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Ruslan Magomedov of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection made on September 7, 2016.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”

He pulled out to let with that "injury" of his.

I believe all fighters that pull out do to "injury" should be tested. I think at least 60% of them pull out because they messed up their cycle.

USADA suspends UFC’s Abdul-Kerim Edilov 15 months for meldonium

Image

Abdul-Kerim Edilov has yet to make his UFC debut, and he’ll have to wait longer still.

The Chechen light heavyweight has been given a 15-month suspension by USADA for testing positive for the prohibited substance meldonium in an out-of-competition drug test back in January, the UFC’s anti-doping partner announced Friday. His suspension is retroactive to Jan. 7, 2016, the date the sample was collected. Edilov will be eligible for his first UFC fight in April.

Meldonium, which has been prevalent in Eastern European athletes, was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on Jan. 1, 2016. Two other UFC fighters, Islam Makhachev and Daniel Omielanczuk, tested positive for the drug earlier this year. USADA found no fault with Makhachev, because its investigation showed he ingested meldonium prior to Jan. 1. Omielanczuk remains under investigation, but he was not provisionally suspended for testing positive for the substance.

The USADA investigation into Edilov turned up that he used meldonium after Jan. 1, per the release. The agency accepted that Edilov’s claim that he was using the substance for medical reasons and only taking a small dose — not for performance-enhancing reasons — but he would have needed a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) to take it and never applied for one.

Edilov (16-4) was supposed to make his UFC debut back in January against Francimar Barroso, but suffered a torn meniscus and had to pull out of the fight. Edilov, 24, is a solid prospect at Akhmat Fight Club. He was won 10 straight fights, all of them by finish, in Russia.

Meldonium was also the drug Maria Sharapova failed a drug test for earlier this year, causing her to be suspended from tennis for two years.

Lyman Good pulled from UFC 205 due to potential doping violation

Image

Lyman Good will no longer compete at UFC 205 in New York after he was flagged for a potential doping violation stemming from an out of competition sample collected on October 14.

UFC officials announced on Monday that USADA (United States Anti-Doping Violation) had informed them of Good's potential violation and as a result he's been provisionally suspended.

As a result, Good will no longer be allowed to compete on Nov. 12 for his previously scheduled match with Belal Muhammad.

"The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Lyman Good of a potential Anti-Doping violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on October 14, 2016. USADA has provisionally suspended Good based on the potential anti-doping violation," UFC officials said in a statement.

"Good was scheduled to fight Belal Muhammad in New York at UFC 205. The UFC is currently seeking a replacement to fight Muhammad."

There's no word on what substance was found in the flagged drug test and USADA is unable to reveal that information until after the athlete releases details or until after an adjudication process has taken place.

Good debuted in the UFC last July with an impressive second round knockout over Andrew Craig, but had been out of action since then.
